Politics, Society, Culture and Environment (11 days)

India offers a compelling opportunity to study society, culture, politics, and environmental issues. With a population exceeding 1.4 billion, it stands as the world’s largest democracy. The nation is linguistically diverse, with over 19,500 languages and dialects spoken, and culturally rich, with six major religions—Hinduism, Sikhism, Islam, Christianity, Buddhism, and Jainism—significant to more than 80% of the population. India also grapples with environmental challenges, from smog in its megacities and a heavy dependence on coal, to the preservation efforts in its national parks and tiger sanctuaries. These dynamics make India a fascinating case study.

This 11-day journey explores key locations: New Delhi, the bustling capital; Agra, home to the iconic Taj Mahal; Jaipur, renowned for its natural beauty and wildlife; and Varanasi, the spiritual heart of the country. India is a land of awe-inspiring architecture and cultural landmarks. Students will examine topics such as environmental policies, the balance between tourism and sustainability, and the nation’s political landscape. In alignment with our service-learning principles, we will participate in a community project, such as renovating a local school or a similar initiative.

This trip aims to deepen students’ understanding of India’s critical issues and provide a global perspective, linking these insights to challenges in our home country and beyond. Our service project reflects our commitment as global citizens to creating a positive impact.
