This 10-day educational tour to Cambodia has been designed for students and educators, providing an opportunity to participate in meaningful service-learning programs while developing a deeper understanding of Cambodian society, culture, values and traditions. The itinerary also explores important contemporary issues facing the country.
Students will take part in three hands-on service-learning projects at local schools, assisting with renovation works and the construction of six toilet blocks in partnership with a local charity. Additional experiences throughout the journey include visiting a landmine rehabilitation centre, exploring the Temples of Angkor, enjoying a sunset boat cruise, attending the Phare Cambodian Circus, learning about Cambodia’s recent history at Khmer Rouge sites, travelling by tuk-tuk, and exploring vibrant local markets.
Cambodia has endured significant political conflict and hardship throughout much of the 20th century. While the nation continues to rebuild and develop, many communities still face ongoing social and economic challenges resulting from decades of instability and conflict. Through cultural immersion and service-learning experiences, students and staff will gain a broader understanding of global citizenship while contributing to meaningful and lasting community outcomes.
